Difficulty in accessing education, employment, health and even having an identity development process are just some of the challenges faced by the LGBTIQ+ community, according to CONAPRED . Taking into account that only in Mexico 11% of the population considers themselves non-heterosexual, according to a study carried out by the consulting firm Ipsos in 2021, a large number of affected people can be seen.
Acts of discrimination against LGBTIQ+ people have been seen throughout history, however, the Stonewall Revolt marked a turning point. A raid on June 28, 1969 at the pub known as the Stonewall Inn in New York—one of the few places where freedom existed for the homosexual community—triggered demonstrations against a system that persecuted non-normative people (LGBT).
Since that date, the Pride March has been a way of seeking to leave behind acts of homophobia, discrimination and rejection in general. We have lived in Mexico for 43 years, and this June 2022, after two years of absence due to the confinement experienced, various streets in the country have been filled with colors.
With Pride high, an ally has joined the march and has also generated initiatives in favor of the LGBTQ+ community. We tell you what are some steps that have been taken by Responsible Banking.
Santander Mexico in the 2022 LGBT Pride March
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is characterized by companies ensuring that their operations are sustainable. Santander México has aligned itself with it and has acquired a great commitment:
“We help people and companies progress, supporting inclusive and sustainable growth by integrating social, environmental and good governance criteria into our business model.”
Responsible Banking, Santander Mexico.
In this sense, it is responsible for promoting an inclusive Chinese American Phone Number List community free of discrimination for all its collaborators and clients, since it is aware that inclusion enriches us all. That is why, in alliance with Pride Connection México—a network of companies that seeks to promote inclusive work spaces for sexual diversity—, they joined the 2022 LGBT+ March in Mexico City.
This is not the first time that the company has joined Responsible Banking; in fact, in 2021, as part of its diversity, equity and inclusion strategy, the financial institution carried out a series of activities among its collaborators to strengthen a respectful and inclusive work environment, including sponsorship of the LGBT+ March in Mexico, which on that occasion was virtual.
Santander Mexico participated in the 2022 LGBT Pride March with effusiveness, camaraderie and, above all, pride, however, this is only one of its means of support, since its commitment takes firm steps through initiatives that have an impact throughout the year.
“We invite our collaborators to participate in the Pride march to make it clear that Santander is a safe place to work, where their sexual orientation, expression and gender identity are not an obstacle to their development in line with our mission of supporting progress. of people".
Héctor Chávez, Sponsor of the LGBT+ Pillar
